Maximum Impact

May 27, 2011

This coming Sunday we wrap up our preaching series on Love: The Watermark of Christianity from 1 Cor. 13.  I thought this series would be encouraging and challenging to the church.  I did not figure on it being so personally edifying.  I have truly enjoyed the challenge of understanding the greatest of virtues and how to apply it to my life and the life of the our church.  It has not always been easy.  As D.A. Carson reminded in his book, The Difficult Doctrine of the Love of God, the doctrine of Christian love is a difficult one to comprehend and apply.

One of the ways in which I have been able to understand it better and thus hopefully preach it with some coherence, is that I have been able to make use of some helpful and insightful resources.  One such resource is the book Maximum Impact: Living and Loving for God’s Glory by Wayne Mack.  At the onset of the series on love, this book was graciously given to me by a dear sister in our church.  It has proven most helpful.  Clear, exegetical, and practical, Mack’s work on 1 Cor 13 is to be highly recommended.
