Imputation or Amputation?

After dinner this evening, our reading and discussion centered on Exodus 20.  Talk of the Ten Commandments soon became talk of our imperfection as opposed to the perfection of Christ.  Talk of Christ’s perfection soon became a discussion of justification. Talk of justification morphed into seeking to understand imputation. The question was raised: “What is imputation?”  One of my daughters said with a serious, inquisitive expression on her face, “Isn’t imputation when you cut off someone’s arm or leg?”
